Are mobile devices really that much of a distraction in the classroom? Should teachers/educational professionals incorporate them somehow?
Whether we like it or not, mobile devices are commonplace for the average person. Almost everybody has one, and we all feel some sort of familiarity with them. They have an ever-expanding database; if you ever needed to look up something, why not take a few seconds and look up the answer on your mobile device? We literally have answers to so many questions at our fingertips.
With all of this being said, why should elementary/middle school students be prevented from using their own personal devices?
When I was writing my blog post about this certain topic, I wanted to find information about how teachers could include the use of mobile devices in their classroom and found a few good articles. Using their information, I thought of a way to incorporate mobile devices in the classroom without reducing productivity. If the students were forced to download an app that let teachers monitor their cellular devices while they were being using in the classroom, this would restrict the students from using their mobile device on school-unrelated activity. That's just a basic idea however, but I felt like sharing it!
